Wero + Mollie Connect: One Payment Method for All of Europe via LinkDash
Wero replaces iDEAL, Giropay and Paylib to become Europe's unified payment method. Discover how Mollie Connect and LinkDash Mini Shop let you serve customers in 22+ countries through one European payment system.

Europe is finally getting its own payment system. Wero — the digital wallet from the European Payments Initiative (EPI) — is replacing iDEAL, Giropay, Paylib and Payconiq to become the standard payment method for the entire continent. With 43 million users in its first year and backing from 16 major European banks, Wero is Europe's answer to Visa and Mastercard. And with Mollie Connect in the LinkDash Mini Shop, you're ready for it.
What is Wero and why is it a game changer?
Wero is a pan-European digital wallet launched in July 2024 by the European Payments Initiative (EPI), a consortium of 16 major banks from France, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. The goal: one payment method for all of Europe, independent of American card networks.
Wero works via direct bank-to-bank transfers — instant, secure and without a credit card. Consumers pay with one click from their banking app. No card number needed, no intermediaries, lower costs than Visa or Mastercard.
Wero is currently live in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. Austria is joining soon, and throughout 2026 Wero is rolling out to e-commerce and point-of-sale payments across Europe.
Wero replaces iDEAL
In the Netherlands, the transition has already begun. Since January 2026, iDEAL appears with Wero co-branding, and by the end of 2027 iDEAL will be fully replaced by Wero. The same applies to Giropay in Germany and Paylib in France — they are all merging into Wero.
This means that as a seller, you no longer need to think about which local payment method to offer per country. Wero will work everywhere.
Mollie: Principal Member of the European Payments Initiative
Mollie is not just any payment provider — Mollie is a Principal Member of EPI, the consortium behind Wero. Wero is directly available in the Mollie dashboard. Mollie will offer Wero for merchants in Germany and Belgium in the first half of 2026, France and Luxembourg shortly after, and the Netherlands in late 2026.
Mollie Connect is their platform integration that allows SaaS platforms like LinkDash to process payments on behalf of their users. When you create a Mini Shop on LinkDash and sell a product, the payment is processed through Mollie. The buyer pays with Wero or another local method, and you receive the money in your own Mollie account.
This model is called split payments: Mollie automatically splits the payment. You receive the product price, and LinkDash only receives the platform fee. Transparent, secure and fully compliant with European regulations.
Why Wero is better than credit cards
For creators and small business owners, the advantages of Wero are significant:
- Lower costs — bank-to-bank transfers are cheaper than credit card transactions (no Visa/Mastercard interchange fees)
- Instant settlement — money is transferred immediately, no waiting days
- No credit card needed — your customers pay from their bank account with one click
- Higher conversion — consumers trust their own bank more than entering a card number
- European independence — no dependency on American card networks
- One-click payments — faster than manually entering card details

How does it work with LinkDash Mini Shop?
The LinkDash Mini Shop is the simplest way to sell digital products from your link-in-bio page. Here's how the Mollie Connect integration works:
- Create a LinkDash account — sign up for free and choose a Pro or Business plan
- Connect your Mollie account — via Mollie Connect you'll be redirected to Mollie to log in or create a new account
- Add products — upload your e-book, course, template or other digital product
- Set your price — choose your currency (EUR, GBP, CHF, etc.)
- Publish and sell — visitors pay with Wero, Bancontact or another local method
The entire process takes less than 15 minutes. Mollie handles verification — depending on your country and business type, this can take anywhere from an hour to a few business days.
LinkDash Subscriptions vs. Mini Shop: what's the difference?
LinkDash offers two ways to earn money:
| Feature | LinkDash Subscriptions (Stripe) | LinkDash Mini Shop (Mollie) |
|---|---|---|
| Payment provider | Stripe | Mollie Connect |
| Available for sellers | Worldwide (40+ countries) | Europe (22+ countries) |
| Available for buyers | Worldwide | Worldwide |
| Payment methods | Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay | Wero, Bancontact, EPS, Multibanco, Przelewy24, PayPal, Apple Pay |
| Product types | Recurring payments (subscriptions) | One-time digital products |
| Registration required | Business or freelancer in Stripe country | European business registration |
In short: use Subscriptions (via Stripe) for recurring payments and worldwide availability. Use Mini Shop (via Mollie) for one-time digital products with Wero and other European payment methods. Both can coexist on the same LinkDash page.
Important: Mollie is only for European sellers
A key difference from Stripe: Mollie Connect is only available for sellers with a European business registration. If your business is based in the US, Canada, Australia or any other non-European country, you cannot use Mollie.
Your buyers, however, can come from anywhere in the world. A customer from Japan can pay with Visa, a customer from the US with PayPal. Only you as the seller need to be registered in Europe.
Working outside Europe? No problem — use the LinkDash Subscriptions feature via Stripe for your digital products instead.
The future: Wero is expanding across all of Europe
Wero is growing fast. With 43 million users in its first year and active support from 16 major banks, the ambition is clear: Wero is set to become the payment standard for all of Europe. Countries currently using local methods will gradually transition to Wero.
Mollie is also continuously expanding. The following EU member states are expected to be added during 2026:
- 🇧🇬 Bulgaria
- 🇭🇷 Croatia
- 🇪🇪 Estonia
- 🇱🇻 Latvia
- 🇱🇹 Lithuania
- 🇲🇹 Malta
- 🇨🇾 Cyprus
- 🇸🇰 Slovakia
Once these countries become available, you can use them immediately through your existing LinkDash + Mollie Connect integration — no additional configuration needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Wero and iDEAL?
iDEAL was a Dutch payment method; Wero is its European successor. iDEAL only worked in the Netherlands, while Wero is becoming available across all of Europe. Since January 2026, iDEAL appears with Wero co-branding in the Netherlands, and by the end of 2027 iDEAL will be fully replaced by Wero.
How much does Mollie Connect cost?
Mollie charges transaction fees per payment method. Wero and iDEAL cost around EUR 0.29 per transaction, Bancontact EUR 0.39. There are no monthly fees or setup costs. You only pay when you actually process transactions. Check the LinkDash pricing page for the full cost structure.
Can I use Mollie and Stripe at the same time?
Yes. On your LinkDash page, you can offer both Subscriptions (Stripe) and Mini Shop products (Mollie). They work completely independently of each other.
How quickly do I receive my money?
By default, Mollie deposits your money into your bank account the next business day. With Wero, transfers are instant — the money is processed immediately. You can adjust payouts to weekly or monthly in your Mollie Dashboard.
Do I need to charge VAT on my digital products?
Yes, when selling digital products to consumers in the EU, the VAT rules for electronic services apply. VAT is calculated based on the buyer's country (OSS scheme). Mollie offers integrations with accounting tools that handle this automatically. Always consult your accountant for advice specific to your situation.
